Picture an apartment building modelled in BIM, with a kitchen on the fifth floor. The model contains the planned appliances, the cabinet layout and the required electrical connections. Today, that information becomes a spreadsheet, a series of supplier emails, a manually prepared purchase order and several days of administrative follow-up before anything is sent to site.
In the intended workflow, a single action sends the order. Quantities are already known, specifications are defined and delivery dates are linked to the construction programme. The project manager approves, the order is sent and logistics follow automatically. What currently takes three to five days for each finishing package becomes a matter of minutes.
This is neither a distant dream nor a finished product. It is a direction. We are clear about what already works in RIB 4.0, what depends on the design office’s BIM modelling and where contractors’ own processes still need to mature. But the direction is clear, and it guides our investment as a partner.

This vision anchors our presence at Digital Construction Brussels 2026. Not because we can demonstrate a complete solution, but because the sector needs to discuss it. Contractors investing today in their own design capabilities, BIM skills and procurement processes are creating the conditions to put this approach into practice in the near term.
The Belgian context is familiar: there is no national BIM standard, and even within a single design office, two projects may be structured differently. We do not address that by waiting. We work with contractors that have their own design templates or use regular design partners who maintain a consistent structure. Those who establish a shared language of their own are not dependent on a national one.
As a decision-maker, the question to ask is not “When will this become standard?” but “Which foundations can I put in place today?” Can I standardise my design templates? Can I connect my estimating structure to the execution structure? Can I organise procurement so that some administrative work disappears once the data is clean?
